National Association for the Integration and Rehabilitation of the Handicapped was initiated in the year 1993. It has been serving intellectually disabled and multi divyang children. Children with Autism, Cerebral Palsy and those who have more than one disability are being served. All the services being provided are free for the beneficiaries. Caste, Colour, Creed, Religion, Gender is no bar. Divyang children can receive education or training till the age of 18 years.
63 divyang received education during the year. 42 were boys while 21 were girls. 6 Special Educators, 1 Music Teacher and a Principal provided the services. A Physiotherapist visits twice a week to support the children who required it.
Individual Education plan (IEP) is being made for each child, which is revised after every quarter. Classification of Groups :-
Students are divided according to their mental age or functioning level. Motor skills, academics, activities of daily living, money and time concept etc. are being taught in the school. Most of the activities are taught in real life set up such as – shopping, non-fire cooking and other skills.
Educable children learn maths skills, language writing and reading etc.. Every child has different capacity of learning and they learn accordingly. There are two sections of trainable children. They are trained in different skills and their maximum learning is through oral lessons.
In Nursery or Pre-Primary group divyang children learn only activities of daily living, rhymes, eating skills etc.. Flash Cards, blocks, charts, clay, drawing and pasting etc. are being used to teach this group of students.
In pre-vocational class students are being taught how to make fancy Envelops, Carry Bags, Book Binding, Rakhi making, Diyas and Pot Painting etc.. This year special educators taught how to make organic holi colours and chips (potato) to intellectually disabled children.
Physiotherapist helps children by suggesting therapeutic exercises. Special educators and parents follow-up the given exercises.
Sports, music, art and craft, yoga, dance and extra-curricular activities are also being taught to the students.
School has 13 well ventilated rooms and furniture for the intellectually disabled and multi impaired students. Air Cooler, Water Cooler with R.O. water purifier, Fans, Tube-lights are available for divyang students.
Parents meeting were conducted from time to time.
Independence day, Diwali mela, World Disabled Day etc. were celebrated during the year. Children participated in them with great zeal. They had great fun while celebrating the festivals.
12 Multiple disabled children received education and training with the help of two special educators.
Children who have more than one disability fall under this group. They may have visual impairment, hearing impairment or any other significant disability along with intellectual disability.
Their individual education plan is being made according to their needs. Every child learns who so ever comes to school. Their education plan is also revised after every quarter. Their progress is measured and then further planning is done. They learn up to the age of 18 and then go back to their families. By this time they become self reliant to an extent.
Mobility, Activities of Daily Living, Numbers, Art & Craft, Pasting, Physiotherapy, Music etc. are being taught in the school. They have been taken out for real life experience.
Wheel Chair, Mobility Cane, Walkers etc. are being provided to those students who require them. Small picnics or visits are being arranged from time to time for students.
Ultimate aim of the school is to make their special children self-reliant as much as possible. Students slowly make transition from lower group to upper group. At times it is being observed that intellectually disabled children get integrated.
A Camp was arranged for students to provide 2nd dose of Covid-19 Vaccination in the month of April – May, 2022.
